Betty Carolyn Sloan Eldridge

Betty Carolyn Sloan Eldridge, age 74, of Lower Licking Road, Morehead, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 31, 2019, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Born December 21, 1944, at home on Holly Fork Road in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late James Everett Sloan and Iva Ethel Masters Sloan. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Robert "Bob" Sloan and Billy Roger "Bill" Sloan.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband of nearly fifty years, Joe Eldridge, whom she wed August 9, 1969; her loving daughter, Carmen Eldridge Swim and husband Phillip of Morehead; and cherished grandchildren, Olivia Black and Graham Black. Betty is also survived by her brother, Burt Reynolds and wife Mary of Watkins, Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family; and dear friends.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Betty's life centered around her family. She received great joy in meeting the needs of her family and helping others as well. In addition to being a meticulous homemaker and gifted seamstress, Betty always found time to give special love and attention to each family member (including her rescue cat "Tiger"), to prepare delicious holiday meals, and to cultivate her garden. She extended the same caring attitude and help to those in the community, especially those in need. A Christian, Betty's inspiration will endure in the many lives she touched. She will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with the Rev. Molly Smothers officiating. Burial will follow in Swim Cemetery on Ellington-Swim Cemetery Road in Rowan County.

Pallbearers: Randy Eldridge, Mark Eldridge, Bob Wells, Elwood Caudill, Jr., Tony Glover, and Roger Sloan.

Family will receive friends on Monday, February 4, 2019, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.

Betty was my mom’s ( - the late Geneva Faye Gilkison Fox ) cousin . Betty’s Father James Sloan was my Mamaw Lucy Sloan Gilkison ‘s brother. My mom loved Betty and some of my earliest memories are of visiting Great Aunt Iva and l remember most about Betty from early on was her sweet soft voice and such kindness. I will never forget that about her and I feel so blessed to have known and loved her. Betty gave me a small iron skillet which I still use to fry an egg or fry or bake cornbread.
Betty was most proud of daughter Carmen and her grandchildren.
Betty , you will be fondly and lovingly remembered.
