Billy Joe's Story
Billy Joe "Bill" Barnes, age 78, of Flag Branch Road, Hillsboro, formerly of Morehead, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Saint Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Born August 18, 1939, at Waco in Madison County, he was the son of the late Eugene and Lottie Fletcher Barnes and brother of the late Sue Ann Barnes Dixon. Bill was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Kathryn Dickerson Barnes, on January 5, 2013; one son, Billy Todd Barnes, on May 11, 2001; and one grandson-in-law, Gary Pettit, on February 18, 2018.
Bill is survived by one son, Gregory Barnes and wife Carolyn of Morehead; two daughters, Sharon Prewitt and husband Greg of Hillsboro and Heather Whitt of Morehead; five grandchildren, Lindsey Pettit, Amanda (Matt) Brown, Jonathan Prewitt, Sarah Whitt, and Taylor Whitt; and five great grandchildren, Maggie Pettit, Jonah Pettit, Emma Mae Brown, Ally Grace Pettit, and Brantley Wade Brown.
Bill was an auto body paint and repair person for many years. Commonly known as "Bondo Bill," he began his career with Pug Razor's Body Shop and later with Stanley Pontiac-GMC, and Stone Pontiac. In 1976, he became an employee of Browning Mfg. (that transitioned into Emerson Electric) and retired in 2001. Following retirement, he enjoyed working as a greeter at Wal-Mart and talking with everyone. Bill also enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. Bill was a member of Mt. Pisgah Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jared DeAtley officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Ray Donahue, Gordon Donahue, Kenneth McClurg, Jonathan Prewitt, Lee Pennington, and Matt Brown. Honorary Pallbearers: Jonah Pettit and Brantley Wade Brown.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
