Chester's Story

Chester Harold "Chetty" Calvert, 96, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the residence of Mike and Patty Dickerson in Salt Lick, where he had made his home for the last 16 months.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1920 in Farmers, a son of the late Fred and Mary Sorrell Calvert.

Chetty was a retired inspector having worked at Hobart Manufacturing in Mt. Sterling and he was a United States Army Veteran having served as a Sergeant during World War II. At the time of his death, he was one of the oldest World War II Veterans in the area.

He was a member of the Lakeview Community Church and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, attending church, sharing stories about the Army and World War II and visiting and talking with family and friends, especially children. He was an avid U.K. Basketball Fan and he loved his cat, Blackie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Greer Calvert, who passed away in 1989, two brothers, Charles Calvert and John Edward Calvert and one sister, Kathleen Calvert Evans.

Survivors include one daughter, Katelyn (Grant) Perry of Morehead, one brother, George (Lucille) Calvert, Sr. of London, special friends, the Mike and Patty Dickerson Family of Salt Lick and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Lakeview Community Church with Rev. Eddie Dennison and Rev. James Allen officiating.

Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery at Midland.

Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126.

Pallbearers will be Grant Perry, Mike Dickerson, Shane Dickerson, Landon Dickerson, Matthew Dickerson and Rob Strausbaugh.

Visitation is after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the church.
