Clara's Story

Clara Louise Black Spurlock, age 69, of Colfax Road, Hillsboro, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

Born Feb. 3, 1948, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Louann Link Black. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Vernon D. "Dee" Spurlock; six brothers, Christopher, Jeff, Ranze, Emerson, C. O. and Wilson Gene Black; a granddaughter, Gracie Hurst; and a grandson, Dustin Hurst.

She is survived by five sons, Charles Lee Black of Morehead, Timothy Forest Hurst and William Lee McCormick, both of Colfax, Troy Wayne Hurst of Campbellsville, and James Willard Hurst of Augusta; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are six sisters, Bernice Chambers, Alma Jean Turner and Tina Black, all of Morehead, Brenda Hunt of Muses Mill, Delphia Holbrook of Colfax, and Lela Cross of Richmond, Indiana; three brothers, Michael Black of Flemingsburg, Bobby Black of Louisville, and Jerry Black of Owingsville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Clara was a homemaker and was a member of the Grange City Christian Church and Johnson Ford Christian Church for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and going to church.

Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Richard Engle officiating. Burial followed in Johnson Black Cemetery on Ramey Ridge Road.

Her grandchildren served as pallbearers.

Visitation was from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
