Donald Thompson, age 73, of Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at the Fleming County Hospital in Flemingsburg.
Born June 27, 1943, in Pike County, he was a son of the late Calvin Coolidge and Minnie Fannin Thompson. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Lewis and Ernestine Dalton.
Donald is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon Clevenger Thompson, whom he married Nov. 11, 1972; one daughter, Melissa Dawn Kelly and husband David of Hillsboro; and four grandchildren, Crecie, Hannah, Cassie and Abby Kelly.
Other survivors include one brother, Calvin C. Thompson, Jr. and wife Judy of Turkey Creek; one sister, Dottie Whitt of Hardy; two special nieces, Raemona Lewis Kurtz and Rachel Lewis, both of Mesa, Arizona; several nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Donald was a retired coal miner and member of the Owingsville Church of Christ. He was an avid U.K. fan and enjoyed fishing and all kinds of sports.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at the Hutton Funeral Home with Brother Alton Norman officiating. Burial was in Hillsboro Cemetery with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
Visitation was 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at the Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
