Joyce Lillian McKinney McKenzie, age 89, of Salt Lick, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation in Owingsville.
Born April 11, 1927, at Mt. Hope in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Bertha Hall McKinney. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Kenny McKenzie in 2008, and four brothers, Harold, Oshel Glenn, Joe, and Foley McKinney.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 70 years, the Rev. Guy S. McKenzie, whom she wed June 13, 1946; four sons, Darrell (Donna) McKenzie of Morehead, Joe (Ginnie) McKenzie of Owingsville, Jerry McKenzie of Morehead, and Forrest "Frosty" (Chandy) McKenzie of Salt Lick; one daughter, Penny (Ronnie) Stockdale of Salt Lick; 11 grandchildren, Lisa McKenzie, Kevin McKenzie, Terry McKenzie, Lynn Kissick, Laura Terrell, Courtney McKenzie, Krissy Withrow, Justin McKenzie, Matt Stockdale, Kyle A. McKenzie, and Maegan McKenzie; 10 great grandchildren, Aaron Conn, Ethan Conn, Allie McKenzie, Dawson McKenzie, Teisha McKenzie, Justin McKenzie, Dalton McKenzie, Makenzie Kissick, Myla McKenzie, and Addy Stockdale; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Bella Conn and Kaden Hutson.
She also leaves behind one sister, Betty (Larry) Twarek of Marblehead, Ohio; nieces, nephews, and other relatives; her church family and many friends.
Mrs. McKenzie was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Employed by the Bath County Board of Education for nearly 20 years as a cook at the Salt Lick Elementary School, many of those school children became lifelong friends. A helpmate to her husband and the churches he pastored through the years, Mrs. McKenzie has been a member of the Midland First Church of God since 1961. She was a member of the quilting ladies of the church for many years, enjoyed singing with the church trio, and was always available to help others. She will be greatly missed by all.
A funeral service and celebration of her life will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Midland First Church of God with Bro. Bush Stevenson, Bro. Rodney Williams, Bro. Lowell Rice, and Bro. Aaron Conn officiating. Grandson Kyle A. McKenzie will provide closing remarks and prayer. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Kevin McKenzie, Joe McKenzie, Terry McKenzie, Justin McKenzie, Matthew Stockdale, Kyle A. McKenzie, Ethan Conn, and Dawson McKenzie.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, at Midland First Church of God, 11479 E. Highway 60, Salt Lick, KY 40371.
