Karen Suzanne Richardson, 70, died in Saratoga Springs, NY on Aug. 9, 2016, after a lengthy illness from a constellation of autoimmune diseases.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Kathleen Turner Hargis of Morehead. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 50 years, Dr. J. David Richardson; her daughter, Melissa Lewis; daughter Dr. Amy Richardson (David Searfoss) and son, Britton Richardson (Christine); all of Louisville. She has 10 surviving siblings and 3 grandchildren she adored: Tasia, Charles Daniel, and Amelia Rose.
Suzanne was born Jan. 2, 1946, in Morehead, and attended Morehead State University. Following college, she worked as the cancer registrar for the University of Kentucky Medical School and was instrumental in the development of the state's first comprehensive cancer registry. After her husband's surgical training, she resided for the past 40 years in Louisville. Prior to the progression of her illness, Suzanne was extremely active in a variety of activities while raising her children. She was a master gardener who delighted in her flower gardens; she was an accomplished horsewoman and an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan. She was an active participant with her husband in the breeding and racing of thoroughbred horses. She was a wonderful hostess whose favorite activity was her Kentucky Derby Brunch for 150 people prior to the races.
Visitation is on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Pearson's Funeral Home, 149 Breckinridge Lane, Louisville, KY 40207. A private funeral service will be held in Morehead on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, following visitation at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals from 11:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Lee Cemetery
