Larry Patton, 68, of Olive Hill entered into rest Saturday evening, December 9, 2017 at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, KY. He was born June 12, 1949 a son of the late James Edward Patton and Helen Raye Tackett Patton of Olive Hill, KY. Larry retired after 23 years of Service as a Master Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, having served in Vietnam aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Hamner, and later serving aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower.
In addition to his military career Larry enjoyed wood working, reading Sci-Fi, R.V. Camping and just a little bit of fishing. He loved to spend time with each of his grandchildren. Larry was Christian and attended faithfully the Garvin Ridge Church, where he also served as a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Olive Hill American Legion Post 138 and the Morehead Masonic Lodge #645.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of over 44 amazing and adventurous years, Brenda Sue Patton, whom he wed on June 9, 1973; three daughters, Ashley Perry and her husband Joe of Olive Hill, Jamie Messer and her husband Timothy Alvin of Olive Hill, and Penny Spillman and her husband Hub of Mansfield, OH; one brother Mitchell Patton and his wife Sharon of Morehead, KY and one sister Sue Ann Prichard and her husband Eugene of Grayson, KY; eight grandchildren, Jedidiah, Ariel, Jacob, Harrison, Haddon, Audree, Hutson, and Hyles. Larry also leaves behind a several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that sadly mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00am on Wednesday December 13, 2017 at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Olive Hill, KY with Bro. Randy Binion officiating. Burial followed in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery with military honors presented by the Unites States Navy and the Olive Hill American Legion Post 138.
Friends called 6-9 PM Tuesday December 12, 2017 and after 8:00 AM on Wednesday at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 149 Whitt Street in Olive Hill, KY.
