Michael Clark Hearn, 71, of Morehead, passed away after a long battle with melanoma, Friday, April 21, 2017, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

Born December 12, 1945, in Frankfort, Mike was the oldest son of the late Bettye Jay Williams Hearn and the late James G. Hearn, Jr.

Mike graduated from Frankfort High School in 1964 and from Eastern Kentucky University in 1969 with a bachelor's degree and 1976 with a master's degree. He served two years in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Vietnam. He worked for thirty-four years for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife at the Minor E. Clark Hatchery as a fisheries biologist and later hatchery manager.

Some of his many hobbies included playing basketball, bird dogs, grouse hunting, and fishing. Later in life, he became an avid bridge player. Mike's favorite activity, though, was spending time with his grandchildren. He was blessed to have many good friends with whom he shared his hobbies. He was a member of Morehead United Methodist Church.

Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jane Palmer Hearn, whom he wed October 25, 1969; two daughters: Elisbeth Hearn Brooks (Dennis) of Louisville and Emily Hearn Sacks (Nathaniel) of Silver Spring, Maryland; and four grandchildren: Catherine and Clark Brooks and Kathleen and Vivian Sacks.

Other survivors include two brothers and one sister: Thomas Hearn (SueZan) of Atlanta, Georgia, William Hearn (Robin) of Frankfort, and Kathy Proctor of Frankfort.

A gathering for family and friends will be from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. A memorial service celebrating Mike's life will begin at 11:30 a.m.
