Richard Alan Cooper, age 81, of St. Petersburg, Florida, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Bayfront Hospital Hospice in St. Petersburg.
Born June 9, 1936, in Hamilton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Norman and Elsie Bohlander Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Cooper Fisher.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lois McGuire Cooper, whom he wed October 24, 1959; their four daughters, Kellie, Kris, Erin, and Libby; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Donald Cooper, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and many special nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. A U.S. Army veteran, he honorably served as a paratrooper and sergeant on active duty and in the reserves. He retired from NCR Corporation in Dayton, Ohio, after working as a systems analyst for more than 30 years. Following retirement, Dick and Lois moved to Florida in 1993, where he enjoyed visiting with long-time family and friends, meeting new acquaintances, and fishing anytime he could. A Christian, Dick served as an elder at Immanuel Chapel in Largo.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with his nephew, the Rev. Mark Arnett, officiating. Burial will follow in Fryman Cemetery with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Legion members will also serve as pallbearers.
