Ruth Ann Fraley, age 72, passed away in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016. After experiencing a life altering stroke in 2012, paired with the aggressive onset of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ruth Ann's health had begun to decline in the past few years due to additional challenges. Her spirit was strong and resolute even in her late hours, smiling and laughing with her daughters just days before her passing.
Born May 4, 1944 in Ashland, Ruth Ann grew up in Morehead, participated in cheerleading and homecoming court while attending Breck, and later received her Associates Degree from Morehead State University. She moved to Connecticut in the mid 60's to raise her family, and returned to Morehead in the mid 90's to care for her mother after her father passed away. Once back in Morehead, she worked at the Folk Art Center at MSU before taking a job with the US Postal Service from which she retired in 2009. After retirement, she moved to South Florida where she hand crafted artisan jewelry, and experienced great success retailing her pieces at craft and art shows. Ruth Ann was a long-time supporter of Veterans (her father and uncles all served), and loved music, the beach, detective shows, and Pepsi Cola (not Coke!).
Ruth Ann is survived by her daughters Tracy Scudieri from Los Angeles, California and Angela (Scudieri) Lomel from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her father Robert G. Fraley, mother Mildred (Brown) Fraley and brother Robert D. Fraley.
It was Ruth Ann's desire to have her ashes scattered across the ocean, which will be honored at the family's discretion.
Memorial contributions are welcome at the Lexington VA Medical Center, 1101 Veterans Drive, Lexington, KY 40502
