The matriarch of a large family, Sophia, known by most as "Grandma", loved to work in her flowers and gardens. Much to her enjoyment, she spent many hours piecing together jigsaw puzzles, quilting, and crocheting. Later in life, she kept up with family and friends by mastering her social media skills on Facebook. She never stopped learning and passing on her knowledge.
An amazing woman who worked hard raising her family, Sophia could cook a meal for 50 or 60 without batting an eye and looked forward to the next new recipe. Grandma's house was always full of family and friends alike waiting to sample her famous Hungarian cabbage rolls and chocolate cake. At Thanksgiving and Christmas there was always a line waiting to get to her wonderful homemade nut rolls. She treasured all of these moments and made her house a home to all who entered. To her grandchildren she was a best friend with a heart of gold. Listening to their stories, checking up on them and loving them, Grandma helped build great memories for them to pass on to their children.
Sophia loved her husband, her eight children and all of her family beyond compare. She will be greatly missed in our lives. Losing her has left us feeling lost, but having her in our hearts will keep us going. We love you, Mom and Grandma.
Graveside services for family and friends will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Paul Prabell officiating. Following the service, all are invited to Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church for a meal and celebration of her life.
