Talmadge E.

Talmadge E. "Gene" Barker, age 51, of Heritage Place, Morehead, passed away Monday, May 27, 2019, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead following a courageous battle with cancer.
Gene was born January 14, 1968, in Rowan County. He was preceded in death by his parents: his mother, Maggie Terry Barker passed away on March 17, 1988, and his father, Matthew Barker, on February 4, 1995. He also had a sister, Mary Frances Barker, who resided in Louisville.
Gene is survived by his loving companion of ten years, Linda Carol Davis of Morehead; her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter; as well as his many friends.
Gene was well known and beloved in the community. Always willing to help anyone anytime, he had worked at Day's Resale and Pickett Concrete and was a member of the Hayes Crossing-Haldeman Fire/Rescue and a former member of the Elliottville Volunteer Fire Department and Rowan County Rescue Squad. Gene enjoyed attending all types of functions in the community and eagerly helped in parking cars, carrying food and drinks, and talking with everyone. One of Gene's lifelong passions was driving an 18-wheeler. Gene always admired and respected firefighters, police officers, and other public servants. He was a member of the House of Prayer.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Joe Cline officiating.
