Winford Paul Adkins, 83, of Pleasant Valley, Morehead, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Paul was born February 10, 1934, in Morgan County, to Beecher and Opal Whitt Adkins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Glaspie Jennings, and one brother, Madison Adkins.
His wife of 54, years, Josephine Stewart Jo Adkins, passed away December 31, 2007, and their son, Winford Paul Adkins, Jr., on June 7, 1980.
Paul is survived by one daughter, Samantha Gottler and husband Dean of Lexington; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Darrel and Phyllis Adkins of Sunbury, Ohio, and Michael and Cathy Adkins of Bonita Springs, Florida, as well as nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Paul served in the U.S. Marines Corps for four years and retired from Delta Gas as branch manager after many years of service. He enjoyed boating on Cave Run with family and friends, listening to Bluegrass music, and traveling in his motorhome to various Bluegrass festivals and other events. He was an avid U.K. basketball fan and also enjoyed watching the food channel network, growing various vegetables, and making hot pepper sauce and Jalapeno sauerkraut.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Matthew Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126.
Pallbearers: Dean Gottler, Brian Lee, Everett Wallace, Darrel Adkins, Michael Adkins, Colton Lee, Teddy Wright, and Tim Buckler.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
